Priorities

Our communities are part of one of the most dynamic and fastest-growing areas in the U.S.

By the end of this decade, more than two-and-a-half million people will live in the region we share with Cameron County next door and Tamaulipas, Mexico, to the south. Our population will grow by 16 percent over the next four years. And Hidalgo County will be second in the nation only to a county in Florida when it comes to growth over the next decade.

In the face of such sweeping change, our challenge is to reach out and shape that change, to make it work for our families, our businesses, our schools, our health care systems, and our transportation infrastructure.

As County Judge, my mission is to build a regional partnership with a global vision. We can accomplish that goal if we find new ways to:

• Help our constituents through education and job training


• Improve and modernize our infrastructure through technology


• Create new jobs at better wages


• Promote small businesses and more job creation
